Drip Irrigation Systems

$185 • Self-Paced Online Course

Drip irrigation is the most water-efficient delivery method available to landscape contractors today. Understanding it deeply — not just in principle but in practice — positions you as the specialist your clients increasingly need.

The market for drip irrigation is expanding across Texas as water conservation standards tighten, municipal restrictions multiply, and clients become more sophisticated about the value of efficiency. Contractors who can design, install, and maintain drip systems at a professional level are not commodities — they are specialists, and the pricing premium that comes with genuine expertise is real. This course gives you that expertise in full.

From the fundamental physics that distinguish drip delivery from conventional spray irrigation, through every component in a properly specified drip system, through installation methodology, controller programming, seasonal adjustment, troubleshooting, and long-term maintenance, this course covers the complete professional competency. Students finish with the knowledge to recommend drip solutions confidently, design them accurately, install them to a professional standard, and maintain them for years of reliable, water-conserving performance.

What You Will Learn:

  • The physics and principles of drip irrigation — how it differs from conventional spray systems and why those differences matter
  • Complete drip system components: emitters, pressure-compensating emitters, drip tubing, distribution tubing, fittings, filters, and pressure regulators
  • Emitter selection criteria — how to match emission rate, spacing, and pressure compensation to soil type, plant type, and zone geometry
  • Drip system design from initial site assessment through final installation plan
  • Professional installation practices for residential landscapes, commercial planting beds, and agricultural applications
  • Controller programming and scheduling specifically for drip zones — including seasonal adjustment and water budget settings
  • Maintenance procedures that extend system life and preserve distribution uniformity over time
  • Systematic troubleshooting methodology for the most common drip system failures
  • Water conservation calculations, efficiency benchmarks, and compliance with Texas water use standards
  • Converting conventional spray zones to drip irrigation — planning, component selection, and execution

Technical Requirements: Adobe Acrobat Reader (PDF) and Microsoft Excel (XLS) recommended. Compatible with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge on Windows and Mac. Certificate of Completion issued upon finishing.
